About Concorde Kids

Concorde Kids is a multidisciplinary group pediatric therapy practice integrating physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech & language therapy in an innovative and exciting clinical environment. We're excited to be able to expand our services beyond the clinic to bring unique, comprehensive services to children with challenges within our community.

Why Handwriting?

Writing is a complex task, incorporating components of coordination, organization, speed, strength and endurance. Very few children develop good handwriting skills independently. For many children, integrating these components  represents a challenge.

Penmanship and self-esteem are closely linked. Children who write well and easily do better in school and enjoy it

more. Those who have difficulty with the quality and/or speed of their handwriting are frequently at a disadvantage in the high paced classroom setting.

Clearly, effective handwriting is a critical tool for succeeding in school, but acquiring this important skill does not have to be a burden.

What is “The Write Stuff”?

“The Write Stuff” is a summer handwriting program for children of all ages based upon the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. Children will be divided into one of four groups ranging from beginning printers to struggling cursive writers.

What is Handwriting Without Tears?

Handwriting Without Tears is a simple, developmentally based curriculum developed by Jan Olsen, OTR/L.  The mulitisensory lessons teach to all learning styles -- visual, auditory, manipulative, tactile and kinesthetic.  The workbooks and materials are designed to prevent/remediate problems with reversals, letter formation, neatness, spacing and cursive connections.

Who Should Attend?

Handwriting Without Tears is a method that works with both the typically developing child and the child with special needs.  This method takes a child from pre-printing skills to mastery of cursive and is designed to meet the abilities, learning style and needs of each child.

Students will be divided into four groups depending upon current handwriting skill level

Printing I: pre-printers and beginning printers

Printing II: children struggling with printing

Cursive I:  beginning cursive writers

Cursive II:  struggling cursive writers
